The city of London possesses one of the world's most advanced transport systems. London has a network of 580kms and 4,600 traffic lights.
Every corner of the city is connected well by a collection of public transport such as Taxis (Black cabs), Buses, London Underground (the tube), Railways, Docklands Light Railway (DLR), Trams and River Services such as ferries and boats. According to Transport for London (TfL), which was created in 2000 as the integrated body responsible for the Capital's transport system, every weekday, 6.3 million journeys are made on London's buses, 3 million on the Tube and a further 150,000 on DLR.
Transport for London (TfL) is responsible for London's buses, the Underground, the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and the management of London River Services.
TfL also promotes a range of walking and cycling initiatives across the Capital.
Real time online information on travel in the city, including timetables, route maps and interactive journey plans, is available at the TfL's journey planner web site at http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk
